Summer Wine and Nibbles

Reporter: Heather Coltman

For once, in this more than usually unreliable summer, the weather for Maria and Peter Mills’s Event was good and even warm.

Proceedings started around 12 noon with 30 to 40 members and guests trickling into their delightful garden. For those who have never been it has a large wide lawn sloping down to the old mill pond with the cows grazing peacefully in the distance, ideal for a garden party.

Peter took the usual entry fee and then guests made their way over to the gazebo bar where Maria and her helpers dispensed the wine (or soft drinks). The ‘nibbles’ were provided by Diana Clifford and as usual were of a very high standard. Tables and seats were scattered about the lawn and were soon fully occupied, everyone chatting and spotting friends and acquaintances and catching up on the news, (including who had stayed up for the Olympics opening ceremony the previous evening). Meanwhile the wine flowed and the food kept coming; a most enjoyable time for those of us who just had to sit back and enjoy ourselves.

Many thanks to those who worked so hard to make sure we all had a good time.
