Events

The Society hosts regular members’ meetings held at    All Saints Old School Hall, Church  Street, Sudbury CO10 2BL. There is a small carpark almost opposite.

Entry is £3 for members and £5 for non members and everyone is welcome to attend.

Older Houses & Climate Change

January 24, 2019, 7pm

Topic at the next meeting is a fascinating insight into the practicalities and politics involved in making older properties more environmentally sustainable to live in....John Preston is a former conservation officer in Sudbury and current Chair of the Sustainable Traditional Building Alliance and will have lots of insight and suggestions to offer!

Sustainable Architecture Debate

February 21, 2019, 7pm

Don't miss our February debate on the question - "Is Sudbury a case study in sustainable development?". Short presentations will be given by Ben Humphries (Architype Architects), Dr Saul Humphreys (Morgan Sindall) and our SudSoc Chair Prof John French followed by a debate and members' vote!

Sudbury on Show 2019

Please come along to Sudbury On Show to find out all about the wonderful community organisations, charities, sporting and special interest groups and voluntary bodies active in our town! The Sudbury Society will have a table inside St Peter's so please do stop by to say hello, have a chat and help us to recruit new members.

Sudbury Society AGM and ‘Hidden Histories’ Talk

We hope as many members as possible will be able to attend this year's AGM in support of our Society.
It will be followed by a talk you won't want to miss by Professor Pamela Cox (University of Essex) on 'Servants, Shopgirls and Sex Work' as seen on the BBC.

Visit to Cambridge and Ely

Our spring day trip will include a persona your of the Fitzwilliam Museum at the University of Cambridge by Margaret Greaves, retired Deputy Director PLUS a visit to Ely Cathedral and tour of the superb stained glass collection. Transport to be provided and only a few spaces left. Booking essential: £20 ticket pp is amazing value!

Thatching & Brewing Tour

May 30, 2019, All Day tbc

Another fantastic all day trip! First stop is Halesworth to hear talks from Steven Letch (Chair of the Master Thatchers Assoc) and Oliver Lowenstein (Fourth Door Review) and a working demonstration of techniques on-site. This will be followed by lunch and a tour of Adnams Brewery in Southwold sponsored by Adnams. Transport will be provided and tickets at £20 pp are limited. Book ASAP!

My Family & Other Cameras

June 27, 2019, 7pm

Come to our next talk about the history of film cameras including an exhibition of vintage cameras with black and white photos of Sudbury architecture taken through different lenses.

Talk given by our President John French with a selection of wonderful vintage cameras and photos from his collection. Not to be missed!
