Events

The Society hosts regular members’ meetings which from September 2019 are being moved to a larger and more central venue:

Assembly Rooms, Town Hall, Sudbury CO10 1TL. There are limited on street parking spaces on Market Hill and North Street.

Entry is £3 for members and £5 for non members and everyone is welcome to attend.

‘By Royal Appointment’ – A Celebration of Craftmanship

September 26, 2019, 7pm - 9pm

We are thrilled to welcome Richard Peck, CEO of the Royal Warrant Holder's Association to talk to us in our new venue at the Town Hall Assembly Rooms after our summer break. He will give us a history of the Royal Warrant and tell us about local companies that hold this status and their outstanding craftsmanship. There will be time for questions afterwards with wine and nibbles served. Don't miss a rare opportunity to hear an eminent speaker on a fascinating subject of local relevance.

Fiction in Sudbury – A literary tour

October 24, 2019, 7pm - 8.30pm

Author Simon Edge will lead us on a literary tour through the highlights of Sudbury's appearances in fiction, taking in Dickens, 101 Dalmatians, Lovejoy and his own and other more recent works that feature our town. There will be readings, an opportunity for questions with tea/coffee served. All welcome to what promises to be wonderful evening, with the promise of a few surprises!

Modern Organic Farming in Suffolk

November 28, 2019, 7pm - 8.30pm

John Pawsey farms approx 2000 acres at Shimpling using modern organic production, and has done so since 1999. He is in a unique position to describe the process of conversion from more conventional farming practices, what organic processes entail and the difference between them. Join us to learn all about how the countryside around Sudbury is being managed - all welcome!

St Peter’s Regeneration Plans – Project Update

January 23, 2020, 7pm - 8.30pm

A talk by the Churches Conservation Trust project team on their plans to regenerate St Peter's with funding from The National Heritage Lottery Fund. With reference to their success in other projects, the team will look at what may be possible for Sudbury's iconic landmark on Market Hill, and how they hope to realise this major project for our town. Don't miss it!
