Christopher Lane The Coach House

Residential

Many of the large houses in Friars Street once had gardens which stretched back to Christopher Lane. The original coach house belonged to Prospect House, opposite the cricket ground, for generations the home and surgery of local doctors. They kept their horse-drawn carriages and finally a car in their coach/trap house. The building has undergone many changes - the architects for the last transformation in 1999-2000 were Wincer Kievenaar of Hadleigh. Their design made reference to the old Grammar School building opposite, in the use of gables and window shapes, and makes a very positive contribution to this sensitive area of the town.
