Market Hill Water Fountain

Community

This civic amenity was presented to the town by Alice Mary Brown in 1882. The original top was destroyed by a lorry but replaced by a replica in 2016. There is no water flowing now but originally it provided water for local people, their horses, cats and dogs. The fountain featured famously in Dodie Smith's book "101 Dalmatians" and bears a plaque to that effect.
