A substantial Victorian villa, well concealed from the thunder of passing traffic behind its original brick and flint walls. Built c1870 for George Whorlow, a prosperous local businessman who was the local agent for the Great Eastern Railway Company, dealt in coal and lime and developed a flourishing removal business using large horse drawn removal vans. The house was extended to the west later in the 19th century along with a remodelling of the front with ground floor bays flanking an elaborate entrance porch.
