The Society AGM took place on Friday 18th March at Friars Hall.
It followed the usual format with apologies for absence, adoption of the minutes of the 2015 AGM, Chairman’s report and a brief finance report by the Chair as the Treasurer has stood down mid term. The Treasurer had however filed an up-to-date balance of accounts to 31/12/2015 – copies of these were distributed to members present.
Officers and committee stood down and were then, in general re-elected.
The following changes occurred:
David Burnett was instated as Vice President
Neil Pearson was replaced by Ian Liddell as Treasurer
John Taylor was replaced by Pat Thorpe(present editor of the SudSoc NewsJournal)
President Andrew Phillips emphasised that the committee had worked tremendously hard during the year and were a strong, dedicated team ideally set up to deal with some very major challenges that Sudbury faced over the coming years.
Lorna Hoey, Chair, was congratulated on her work throughout quite a difficult year. The Chair’s Report was in the main covered by this presentation
The Chair mentioned the ongoing campaigns to present the Society’s views on the following issues:
The future plans for Chilton Woods; Walnuttree and St Leonards Hospital sites; relocation of the current bus station; the fate of Belle Vue house and redevelopment of the site; development of the Hamilton Road site; design of the Belle Vue junction
New Sudbury Society, community-based projects include a book of Sudbury’s Listed buildings, a summer art fair and promotion of the Sudbury Society through new display boards in the library.
The AGM was followed by a talk by Mark Bills, Director of Gainsborough’s House.
