A row of simple mid 19thC brick cottages which contribute to the charm of this narrow lane. The ground floor window arches are set slightly higher than the doorways, giving a rhythm to the frontage. On September 4th 1873 Grace Lilley, the owner of Ivy Lodge and these cottages, responded coolly to the Town Council's order that she have the cottages connected to the town water supply: 'I beg to inform you that there is a very good supply of water belonging to them from which pump I always use water for my own table.' The outcome of this dispute is not recorded.
