Outwardly No 47 appears an early Victorian house with a simple quiet dignity; the wooden casements replacing the original sashes fit in quite well. But the real interest is inside where there is evidence of a much older timber framed structure. The front section of the house seems to be the two bay cross wing of a much larger merchant's house, possibly 15thC, whilst at the back a later timber framed extension has been added, perhaps in the 17thC.
