One of three milestones within the town boundaries on the Sudbury Local List. They date from the late 18th/early19thC and marked off the miles on the turnpike road which ran from Braintree through Sudbury and on to Bury. This one sitting in the wall of the front garden of No 140 is much worn - the next one in the sequence sits on the right hand side of the road as you approach Long Melford and has recently been restored, giving a good idea of the original appearance of these stones.
